Since the world is interconnected, it is imperative that one has an understanding of what it means to be a global citizen.
In this colloquium, we were asked what traits define a global citizen.  A global citizen is status which does not recognize borders. People who posses traits which identify them as a global citizen are aware of and understand the wider world and their place within it. They work to make the world more fair, equal and sustainable. According to Oxfam, these individuals are knowledgeable about the world and have skills which help to encourage others to have a role in the world around them. They engage with the world, utilizing their skills in order to make a positive difference.

This colloquium made it more clear to me how I could maintain values that would allow me to better understand and communicate with those who have different values than me in general. Whether it would be in a professional setting or when I am traveling in a new place and attempting to establish connections. Being a global citizen is beneficial in any setting.
